About Workers' Stadium
Reconstruction between August 2020 and December 2022 replaced the 1959 original on exactly the same Chaoyang District site, retaining the oval outline and the concrete facade of 80 columns. The rebuilt 68,000-capacity arena dropped the athletics track to become a football-specific venue, with four tiers of fully covered seating, green seats echoing Beijing Guoan's colours, and a steel roof carrying transparent panels and photovoltaic cells. Its predecessor had hosted the 1990 Asian Games and the 2004 AFC Asian Cup before the 2008 Olympics shifted attention elsewhere.
