About United Center

Raised on Chicago's Near West Side in 1994, the arena replaced Chicago Stadium, which had stood across the street since 1929. Its designers angled steel panels around the upper bowl so that crowd noise reflects back down toward the floor, an attempt to carry over the din of the older building. A 190,000-square-foot atrium was added in 2017 and a new centre-hung scoreboard followed in 2019. Beyond basketball and hockey, the building has staged three Stanley Cup Finals and the Democratic National Conventions of 1996 and 2024.
