About Turf Moor
Second only to Deepdale among continuously used grounds in English professional football, Turf Moor has staged Burnley matches since February 1883, on land where the local cricket club had been active decades earlier. The club bought the site in 1922 for 4,500 pounds. A first wooden grandstand went up in 1885, the Bob Lord Stand followed in 1974, and the North and Jimmy McIlroy stands completed the all-seater conversion in 1996. A hybrid pitch was laid in 2010. The record crowd of 54,775 came for an FA Cup tie with Huddersfield Town in 1924.
