About Top Field

Ownership of the land rests with the Cow Commoners' Trust, which limits how far the Fishponds Road ground can be developed. Football has been played on the site since 1873, first by the original Hitchin club and, after a fire and a long gap, by Hitchin Town from 1928. Floodlights arrived in 1962 and were inaugurated by an Arsenal side, with a replacement set following in 2016. Wooden terracing was rebuilt with covered standing before the 2021-22 season. A record 7,878 watched an FA Amateur Cup tie against Wycombe Wanderers in February 1956.
