About The Valley
Supporters dug the playing area out of a disused sand and chalk pit in 1919, banking the spoil to form terraces. Four stands now ring the pitch: the North or Covered End (9,743), the West (8,097), the Alan Curbishley Stand on the east side (5,802) and the Jimmy Seed Stand (3,469). Charlton abandoned the ground in 1985, and a supporters' campaign that fought a local election as the Valley Party helped win planning consent in 1990; the club returned on 5 December 1992. Rebuilding of the three main stands ran to 2001, and a hybrid pitch and safe standing arrived in 2024.
