About TD Garden
Built directly above North Station on a 3.2-acre site, the arena took 27 months to complete and opened in September 1995 as the FleetCenter, replacing the original Boston Garden next door. Designed by Ellerbe Becket at a cost of around $160 million, it carried the TD Banknorth name from 2005 before settling on TD Garden in 2009. A renovation ahead of the 2006-07 season added high-definition boards and transparent shot clocks, and a later $70 million programme reworked the concourses. NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Finals and the 2016 World Figure Skating Championships have all been staged here.
