About Stadion der Freundschaft
The Stadion der Freundschaft name dates from 1950, replacing the municipal stadium title held since the ground opened in 1930 in the Eliaspark, on the Sandow side of Cottbus. Energie Cottbus bought the site from the city in 2011. Floodlights arrived in 1997, the east stand was reconstructed in 2003-04, and covered steel-framed north and south stands followed in 2007 and 2008. The four sides now hold 22,528 across seats, standing terraces and wheelchair spaces. East Germany met Poland here in 1988.
