About Stadio Luigi Ferraris

Wedged among apartment blocks in the Marassi district on Via del Piano, the ground staged its official opening match in January 1911 and is reckoned the oldest Italian stadium still in sporting use. It took the name of Luigi Ferraris, a Genoa player who died in 1915, on 1 January 1933, and has been shared with Sampdoria since 1946. Dismantled and reconstructed before Italia '90, it now holds 33,205 on reinforced natural grass; more than 60,000 packed in for Italy against Portugal in 1949.
