About Stadio Carlo Castellani
Empoli's ground in the town's sporting district dates back to 1923 and was dedicated in September 1965 to Carlo Castellani, a footballer born in nearby Montelupo Fiorentino who died after being deported to a Nazi camp. Two grandstands and two curved ends give a capacity of 16,284, while a running track and long-jump facilities keep the site in athletics use. Recent work modernised the Curva Sud, paid for by the municipality together with a local bank.
