About St. Jakob-Park

Herzog & de Meuron designed the successor to the old St. Jakob Stadium, with work starting in December 1998 and the ground opening in March 2001 at a cost of roughly 220 million Swiss francs. Originally seating 33,433, it was enlarged to about 42,500 for Euro 2008 and later trimmed to 38,512 once row spacing was improved. Six European Championship fixtures were played here, including the opening match, whose rain-damaged turf had to be relaid. The 2016 Europa League final and UEFA Women's Euro 2025 ties followed, alongside concerts by AC/DC and Metallica.
