About Spectrum Center
Uptown Charlotte gained a replacement for its ageing coliseum when this arena opened in October 2005, built for around $265 million after a 2001 referendum on public funding failed and the city found another financing route. Odell Associates and The Freelon Group drew up the design. A $7 million centre-hung scoreboard was installed in 2016, and a further $275 million renovation programme was approved in 2022. Beyond basketball the building has staged the 2012 Democratic National Convention, NCAA tournament games, the 2019 NBA All-Star Game and UFC cards.
Home club
