About Signal Iduna Park
Dortmund was handed 1974 World Cup matches after Cologne dropped out, and the resulting arena went up in prefabricated concrete sections for 32.7 million marks, opening that April with room for 54,000. Enlargement of the north and south stands in the late 1990s, then corner infills before the 2006 World Cup, pushed it far beyond that figure. The Suedtribuene, holding 24,454 standing spectators, is the largest terrace in European football. The 2001 UEFA Cup final and Euro 2024 fixtures were staged here.
