About Seoul World Cup Stadium

Ryu Choon-soo modelled the design on a traditional Korean kite, with sixteen masts holding a roof fifty metres high over about ninety percent of the seats, clad in translucent panels meant to evoke hanji paper. Excavation in Mapo-gu started in October 1998 and the finished bowl opened in November 2001 at a cost of around 185 million dollars. The opening match of the 2002 World Cup and the semi-final between South Korea and Germany were both played here.
