About Selhurst Park
Archibald Leitch drew up the plans and Humphreys of Kensington built the ground for roughly thirty thousand pounds, the Lord Mayor of London performing the opening ceremony on 30 August 1924. Two matches of the 1948 Olympic football tournament were staged here. The four stands went up piecemeal: the Arthur Wait in 1969, the Whitehorse Lane in the early 1980s and the Holmesdale in 1995. A crowd of 51,482 in 1979 remains the record. Preliminary work on a major redevelopment began in August 2024.
