About San Mamés

Overlooking the Nervión from ground once occupied by a trade fair, the replacement for Athletic's old home rose in stages from May 2010: three-quarters of the bowl was completed while football continued next door, and the remainder followed once the original had been demolished. It opened on 16 September 2013, only 102 days after the last match at the old stadium, at a cost of about 211 million euros. An extended roof added in 2016-17 improved shelter, and the venue has staged the 2024 Women's Champions League final and the 2025 Europa League final.
