About RheinEnergieStadion
Set within the Sportpark Müngersdorf beside Aachener Straße, the present arena was inaugurated on 12 November 1975 with a derby between 1. FC Köln and Fortuna Köln, succeeding two earlier stadiums on the same site. Rebuilding between 2002 and 2004 stripped out the athletics track, produced a rectangular football-only bowl and added a museum devoted to the club in the north stand. Euro 1988, the 2005 Confederations Cup, the 2006 World Cup, the 2020 Europa League final played behind closed doors and Euro 2024 have all brought major football to the ground.
