About Rajko Mitić Stadium
Dug deep into the Dedinje hillside, the ground required the excavation of more than 350,000 cubic metres of earth during construction between 1960 and 1963, which is why its lower tier sits below street level. Red Star opened it on 1 September 1963 with a win over Rijeka. Terracing was removed in the mid-1990s to satisfy UEFA safety rules, and a 2008 pitch renovation brought undersoil heating and new turf. The 1973 European Cup final between Ajax and Juventus drew a crowd of 91,564 here, and Euro 1976 matches were also staged at the venue.
Home club
