About Pittodrie Stadium

Cleared from land once used as a dung heap for police horses, the site off Pittodrie Street has staged football since 1899 and passed to the present Aberdeen club when three local sides merged in 1903. The dugout is credited to trainer Donald Colman, who wanted a sunken view of players' footwork in the 1920s, and the ground became one of Britain's first all-seater venues in 1978. The two-tier cantilevered Richard Donald Stand followed in 1993. A record 45,061 attended a Scottish Cup tie with Hearts in March 1954.
