About Parc des Sports

Six years in construction, the ground on Rue Pierre de Coubertin finally opened in July 1964 and picked up the nicknames La Cuvette and La Marmite from its bowl-like shape. Athletics has mattered here as much as football: French national championships were staged in 1987, 1993 and 1994, and the World Junior Championships came in 1998. Work in 2010 and 2011 added seating and roofing so that Évian Thonon Gaillard could meet Ligue 1 requirements, and 15,162 spectators, a record, watched them face Paris Saint-Germain that September.
