About Oriel Park
Known first as Casey's Field, the Carrickmacross Road ground was made available for junior football by the Casey family in 1919, with Dundalk taking a long-term lease in 1936. Early years brought a sloping pitch, fencing supplied by the railway and old carriages serving as changing rooms. A permanent stand appeared in 1940, and the playing area was levelled and turned through ninety degrees in 1966-67, floodlights arriving with that work. Terracing was extended in 1979 for a European tie with Celtic and repaired in 1982, and an all-weather surface replaced grass in 2005. Capacity had reached roughly 22,000 by Tottenham Hotspur's visit in 1981.
