About Olympiastadion
Werner March's design sank the lower half of the bowl some twelve metres into the ground, part of the Reichssportfeld complex completed for the 1936 Olympic Games with room for around 110,000 spectators. A reconstruction costing €242 million between 2000 and 2004 lowered the playing surface, rebuilt the lower tiers and stretched the roof across 37,000 square metres while preserving the original stonework. The arena has since held the 2006 World Cup final, the 2009 World Athletics Championships, the 2015 Champions League final and the Euro 2024 final.
