About Oakwell

Barnsley's ground off Grove Street has staged football since 1888 and still contains one of the sport's surviving Archibald Leitch structures, the West Stand, whose seating dates from the early twentieth century; safety concerns closed it between September 2021 and January 2022. Newer sides went up in sequence, the East Stand in 1993, the Norman Rimmington Stand two years later and a North Stand costing £4.5 million. The local council bought the site after the club's 2002 administration, and professional boxing brought the venue its first non-football event in 2025.
