About Memorial Stadium

Buffalo Bill's Field was the earlier name for the Horfield plot where this ground opened in 1921 as a memorial to local rugby players killed in the First World War, hence the name still used today. Bristol's rugby club played there until 2014, while Bristol Rovers arrived as tenants in 1996 and took full ownership two years later. Wooden terracing gave way to the Centenary Stand in 1988; the West Stand was demolished in 1995, and a rebuilt South Stand is planned to lift capacity to about 12,500.
