About Meadowbank Stadium

Construction ran from 1967 to 1970 at a cost of 2.8 million pounds so that Edinburgh could stage the 1970 Commonwealth Games; the Duke of Kent performed the opening on 2 May that year. The complex became the first to host the Games a second time in 1986, and over the decades accommodated athletics, track cycling, shooting, football and rugby. The original arena closed in December 2017 and a much smaller replacement, seating 500 within a 1,320 capacity, reopened on the same site in 2022.
