About McMahon Stadium
Erected in just 103 days during 1960 by Burns and Dutton Concrete and Construction, the Crowchild Trail ground was paid for privately by the McMahon brothers after the city and province declined to fund it. Successive expansions lifted the original 19,536 seats past 38,000 by 1987, before luxury-box conversions in 2001 and 2005 trimmed the Canadian football total to 35,400, or 46,020 with temporary seating. Beyond Canadian football it has hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympics, five Grey Cup finals and the 2011 NHL Heritage Classic.
