About Holstein-Stadion
Opened on 15 October 1911 on the Westring in Kiel, the ground was judged substandard by the German federation in 2005, which threatened to withdraw the club's licence unless it was upgraded. A €1.6 million scheme stripped out unsafe concrete terracing and added two modern covered grandstands, reopening in August 2006 for 10,200 spectators. Promotion to the 2. Bundesliga in 2017 prompted further building work, and by the spring of 2019 the capacity had been raised again to 15,034.
