About Groupama Stadium

Announced in 2008 but held up for years by administrative and legal challenges, construction finally started in 2013 at Décines-Charpieu east of Lyon, and the 59,186-seat arena opened on 9 January 2016 as the replacement for Stade de Gerland. Olympique Lyonnais marked the move with a 4-1 win over Troyes. Six matches of UEFA Euro 2016 were staged here, including Portugal's semi-final against Wales, followed by the 2018 Europa League final, the semi-finals and final of the 2019 Women's World Cup, and football at the 2024 Olympic Games. Concerts and rugby have also been held.
