About Gigg Lane

Opened in September 1885 with a fixture between Bury and Wigan, this is among the oldest professional football grounds anywhere still in use. Conversion to an all-seater during the 1990s left four covered stands: the Main Stand, renamed after Neville Neville in 2015, the South Stand whose blue and white seats spell out SHAKERS, plus the Cemetery End and the Manchester Road End. FC United of Manchester ground-shared from 2005 to 2014 and Swinton Lions played rugby league here for a decade from 1992. The ground lay empty from 2019 until a reformed Bury returned in July 2023.
