About Generali Arena

Built in 1925 for SK Slovan, a club founded by Vienna's Czech community, the ground in the south of the city originally held about 10,850 before being largely destroyed during the Second World War. Rebuilt afterwards, it staged motorcycle speedway and then lower-league football under the Vienna Football Association from 1961, and in 1974 was renamed for association president Franz Horr. Successive works between 2008 and 2018 replaced the old stands with two-tier structures and lifted the maximum to 17,600, cut to roughly 15,000 for European fixtures. Sponsorship has since produced the names Generali Arena and Viola Park.
