About Gayfield Park
Spray off the North Sea reaches the terracing of this Angus seafront ground, made on a former refuse tip just west of Arbroath harbour and dating from 1880. It was here in 1885 that Arbroath beat Bon Accord 36-0, still a British record scoreline. The playing area was shifted some sixty yards in 1925 to allow expansion, floodlights followed in 1955, and fire destroyed the main stand in 1958. The present Gayfield Stand opened in 2002 and was extended in 2010. A Scottish Cup tie with Rangers in February 1952 drew a record 13,510.
