About Excelsior Stadium
Broomfield Park's sale left Airdrieonians needing a new home, and this 10,101-seat replacement opened in 1998 to satisfy a rule requiring 10,000 seats of clubs in Scotland's top division. Construction costs helped push the original club into liquidation in 2002. Its 3G surface has drawn a long list of tenants, among them Queen's Park, Glasgow City, Motherwell Women and Celtic's women's and B teams. Three Scottish Challenge Cup finals have been staged here, the 2005 edition drawing a record 9,612, and the venue was refurbished in 2017 for an Elton John concert.
