About Estadio Monumental José Fierro

Spanish architect Jose Grana drew the plans for this Tucuman ground, inaugurated on 21 May 1922 with room for 5,000. Its scale, the largest in northern Argentina at the time, earned it the label Grand Stadium; it was also the province's first roofed venue and the first with a high grandstand, later taking the name of a former club president. Expansions in 2009, 2016 and 2019 added seats, boxes and better access, lifting capacity to 35,200. Argentina's rugby side has played tests here, losing to Scotland in June 2010.
