About Estadio José María Minella
Built on the site of a former hippodrome inside Mar del Plata's Teodoro Bronzini municipal sports park, the ground was finished for the 1978 World Cup and remains the southernmost venue ever to stage a finals match. Six group games were played there that year. It later hosted the 1993 Artemio Franchi Trophy, the ceremonies and football tournament of the 1995 Pan American Games, and the 2001 Rugby World Cup Sevens, plus All Blacks tests and concerts by Queen, Rod Stewart and Soda Stereo. Covered seating was closed in 2021 on structural grounds.
