About Estadio Diego Armando Maradona

Eight years of economic trouble stalled the replacement after the original stands, closed as small and unsafe in the early 1980s, were demolished in 1995. The rebuilt ground in Villa General Mitre opened on 26 December 2003 holding 25,110, on a site used for football since April 1940. It took Maradona's name the following year in honour of the club's former player. Lionel Messi made his Argentina under-20 debut here in 2004, and the venue has also staged rock concerts and festivals.
