About Estadio Cuscatlán

The opening match on 24 July 1976 ended in a 2-0 defeat for the home side against Borussia Mönchengladbach; construction had begun in March 1971. Held on a long lease by the CLIMA association of clubs, it remains the largest arena in Central America. Renovations in 1997, 2007-08, 2015 and 2020 brought improved floodlighting and a 40-metre LED screen. Concerts and political rallies share the calendar with league and international football. A crowd crush at a 2023 match, blamed on counterfeit tickets, killed twelve spectators.
