About Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto
Costa Rican football has been played on this Alajuela site since 18 January 1942, when the ground opened as the Estadio Municipal de Alajuela with a fixture against Cartaginés. Donations of bricks funded concrete walls and terracing from 1949, and building between 1979 and 1984 added further stands and roofing. The present name was adopted in 1966. Natural grass gave way to synthetic turf in 2009, and the venue later staged matches at the 2014 and 2022 FIFA women's youth World Cups.
