About Eintracht-Stadion

Braunschweig's municipal arena on Hamburger Straße opened in June 1923, replacing a small predecessor that held about 3,000. Bundesliga football pushed capacity towards 38,000 after 1963, but financial pressure forced the club to sell the ground to the city in 1981, and a 1995 rebuild reduced it to 25,000. Roofing of the north side in 2009-10 and modernisation of the main stand by 2013 produced the present 24,406. It keeps a working athletics track, rare among German professional grounds, and hosted the 1955 German Cup final.
