About Edgar Street
League football has been played beside the A49 in Hereford since the late nineteenth century, the site passing from the Hereford Athletic Ground Company to the city council in 1931. Floodlights were switched on in March 1953, and the playing area is among the widest in England at 76 yards. A record gate of 18,114 came against Sheffield Wednesday in the 1957-58 FA Cup. The Blackfriars End was demolished in 2024 ahead of redevelopment agreed under a new long-term lease with the county council.
