About Durham Bulls Athletic Park

Opened in April 1995 on Blackwell Street, the ballpark replaced the older Durham Athletic Park and was designed by HOK Sport with The Freelon Group for about $18.5 million. Its best-known feature is the 32-foot left-field wall nicknamed the Blue Monster, topped by a snorting bull sign borrowed from the 1988 film shot in the city. Seating grew from 9,033 to 10,000 when the Bulls reached Triple-A in 1998, and a $9 million overhaul in 2014 widened concourses and added new drainage and LED displays.
