About De Kuip

Glass, concrete and steel went into the 1937 bowl designed by Johannes Brinkman and Leendert van der Vlugt, the architects behind Rotterdam's Van Nelle factory. Its two free-hanging tiers left sightlines unobstructed, a novelty that gave the stadium its nickname, the Tub. Capacity rose from 64,000 to 69,000 by 1949 and floodlights followed in 1958, before a 1994 rebuild produced a 51,117-seat all-seater with an extended roof. Ten European finals have been played here, among them Euro 2000's final and the 2002 UEFA Cup final.
