About City Ground

Occupying the south bank of the Trent at West Bridgford, the ground was taken over in 1898 and financed through five-pound bonds sold under a New Ground Scheme. The nurseryman William Bardill dug out two feet of soil, laid clinker for drainage and barged in turf from Radcliffe-on-Trent. The Executive Stand of 1980 was later renamed after Brian Clough, the Bridgford Stand was rebuilt in 1992-93 and the Trent End followed before Euro 96, when three group matches were staged. A record 49,946 attended in October 1967.
