About Celtic Park

The Parkhead district of Glasgow gained this ground in 1892, when rising rent forced a move from the club's first pitch nearby onto a disused brickyard, and turf carried over from County Donegal was cut for the opening. Terracing surrounded an oval bowl for much of the twentieth century until a rebuild between 1994 and 1998 created four enclosed stands, with rail seating added in 2016. The attendance record of 83,500 dates from New Year's Day 1938. Track cycling world championships in 1897 and the 2014 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony were both held here.
