About Carlisle Grounds

Railway engineer William Dargan laid out this Bray enclosure in 1862, when it was known first as the Bray Athletic Ground and then the Carlisle Cricket and Archery Ground, hosting cricket, association football, archery, flower shows, croquet and firework displays. An indoor roller-skating rink operated on the site between 1876 and 1880. A stand seating 985 was added in 2006, lifting seated accommodation to about two thousand. The ground has also staged UEFA Regions' Cup ties and rugby league internationals, and featured in the 1996 film Michael Collins.
