About Camp Nou

Work started in March 1954 on a replacement for the cramped Les Corts, and the new ground opened on 24 September 1957 to designs by Francesc Mitjans and Josep Soteras, who took inspiration from the oval bowl of De Kuip. Capacity reached 121,401 by 1982 before the 1993-94 remodelling lowered the pitch by 2.5 metres and removed standing room. Espai Barça works begun in June 2023 target 105,000 seats by 2027. Papal mass in 1982, Michael Jackson and U2 concerts and a 2016 rugby final have also filled it.
