About Barclays Center

Three articulated bands of latticework, made up of 12,000 pre-weathered steel panels meant to echo Brooklyn brownstones, wrap the exterior, and a large oculus shelters the plaza entrance. SHoP Architects drew the scheme, with Ellerbe Becket as architect of record. Construction began in March 2010 after years of dispute over eminent domain and recession-era financing, and the arena opened in September 2012, returning major league sport to Brooklyn for the first time since 1957. It has staged the NBA Draft since 2013.
