About Auestadion
Rubble cleared after the Second World War, some 100,000 cubic metres of it, formed the banking beneath the main grandstand of this Kassel ground, where construction started in 1950. Capacity is 18,737, with the pitch encircled by an athletics track later widened to eight lanes. The venue introduced one of Germany's earliest cantilevered stand roofs. Rebuilding between 2003 and 2011 brought an east stand, replaced the ageing grandstand and added a video wall before the national athletics championships were staged there.
