About Ashton Gate
Football arrived at this site south of the River Avon in 1904, and rugby has shared it since Bristol Bears moved in permanently in 2014 after occasional use from the 1920s. Four stands now ring the pitch: the 9,506-seat Lansdown Stand completed in 2016, the Dolman Stand of 1970, the Atyeo Stand and the South Stand, giving an all-seated capacity of 27,000. A 40 million pound rebuild begun in May 2014 demolished older structures, shifted the pitch five metres and added solar panels. Champions Cup and Rugby World Cup fixtures and major concerts have followed.
