About Amex Stadium
Excavating 138,000 cubic metres of chalk allowed the bowl to be sunk three storeys into the ground at Falmer, where the stadium opened in July 2011. KSS produced the design and Buckingham Group built it between December 2008 and May 2011; staged additions to the tiers then lifted capacity in steps to 31,876. Rugby World Cup ties in 2015, among them Japan's 34-32 win over South Africa, and UEFA Women's Euro 2022 group and quarter-final matches have been played there, and conference space and university facilities are built into the stands.
