About American Airlines Center
A former power plant site in Dallas made way for this 420 million dollar arena, which opened in July 2001 as a shared home for the Mavericks and the Stars after groundbreaking in September 1999. David M. Schwarz drew a deliberately traditional exterior of sweeping brick facades and smooth arches, and the curved Quonset-hut roofline earned the building its local nickname, The Hangar. It replaced the ageing Reunion Arena and seats about 19,200 for basketball. Three NBA Finals, the 2007 NHL All-Star Game, NCAA tournament games and UFC cards have been held here.
