About AFAS Stadion

Alkmaar's ground replaced the old Alkmaarderhout and opened on 4 August 2006 with a friendly against Arsenal. Four tribunes named for club heritage surround the pitch, and some supporters call the venue the Victorie Stadion after a sixteenth-century military episode. Part of the roof collapsed in August 2019, forcing matches elsewhere while a replacement structure was fitted; the work finished in 2021 and extra rows of seating lifted capacity to about 19,500.
